Curriculum

High quality health education curriculum naturally must be scientifically founded. In California, the process for the development of the Science Framework for California Public Schools: Kindergarten Through Grade Twelve was separated from the development of the Health Education Content Standards for California Public School Kindergarten Through Grade Twelve. While considerable effort was devoted to the development of cross-cutting science and health curricula, as a result of the bifurcation of this subject matter many opportunities for synergy between scientific concepts and health concepts are weak. It is the intent of curricula developed by STS Studios to use our deep knowledge of health care and the health care system to develop guidance materials that superimpose scientific principles upon the principles of disease prevention and health care – both personal and community health care as included in our definition of health literacy.  In addition, we believe health educational material must be engaging and even entertaining whenever opportunities exist to make it so in the interest of driving the educational process.
